Froggy's Trip to Rehab!
Froggy went to rehab-yes, yes, yes------and all were pleased with his progress, especially me. Kyer Phillips at Dogs and Cats Referral went through a few new paces for us to do at home to work on that left leg that he still does not want to use, but he is able so we're going to work on that. We want him to be all that he can be and Kyer and Dr. Snakard thinks with work he can use that stiff left leg for more than just a crutch. He's taking 2 and sometimes 3, ten minute walks a day and 3 PT sessions at home a day. He'll be going back for more rehabilitation therapy with Kyer next Thursday and once a week for a while yet. He's a willing patient and he's making this a social function. They all like him because he's special.

Froggy is on the Mend!
My Lucky Dog "Froggy" is the best dog in the world. He's in his 2nd week of recovery from double hip/leg surgery and he's taking it like a champ. He's taking his physical therapy in stride and is so patient with all the reps I put him through and seldom complains. On last Wednesday when I took him in for his first session on rehabilitation with the technician at Dogs and Cats Referral, he thought it was a social occasion instead of a trip back to the location of a very bad experience. Any other dog would be scared to go back there. That says a lot about this special dogs disposition but I think it also says a lot more about the staff there. Accolades all around.
He compensates for anything most of us would consider a disability and has proven himself quite an acrobat as demonstrated in the waiting room of Dogs and Cats -- only 5 days after his surgery. After greeting everyone in the waiting room with his wagging pom-pom tail, he scooted to the middle of the floor, balanced himself on his two front legs and flooded the area. He then walked on his two front legs a few steps out of the flood area and sat and waited for me to pick him up. I was pretty happy to see this because I had started to worry that he had an elimination problem. Problem solved with his acrobatic skills now at work. No problems with "taking care of business" since, and at home, in the appropriate places. Good dog!!
He went back to see Dr. Snakard today for his 2 week check-up, got his staples out and got an excellent progress report. She's very pleased at how well he's doing and he's starting his 2 ten minute walks a day. He'll like that, being the social animal he is. Didn't take this smart dog long to find out just where that back gate is. He gets to go back to see those nice people at Dogs and Cats that he likes so much, once a week for rehab right now until he learns to use those muscles again in his left leg.
This special dog just grabs every body's heart. He totally has mine. Everyone is just amazed at his disposition and spirit. I feel like the lucky one.

Froggy on the mend!
Lucky Dog Froggy is doing as well as can be expected after major surgery in both hips. As you might guess, attending to his care is a 24 hour job and we're doing just fine with that. He has such spirit, it's really a joy to care for him. He's is pain but he doesn't complain all that much. Right now, I'm sleeping and taking care of my personal needs around the house when he's napping. Any of you that have ever taken care of new babies, know the drill.
Froggy has his first appointment with the physical therapist this afternoon at 1:00p.
He's such a happy dog, I'm confident he'll get through these bad days just fine.

Froggy's Surgery was a Success!!
Froggy is going to need a lot of physical therapy to help him recover. Because his leg bones were not pointed in the right direction, his quadriceps and other muscles are very atrophied and short. His new mom will be working with the therapists at Dogs and Cats Veterinary Referral -- as well as with Dr. Snakard to make sure that he gains strength as quickly as possible!
Thank you to everyone who has helped make this surgery possible. Please keep spreading the word and donating to Froggy's care!

An Update from Froggy's Adopter.....
Froggy, who I am now calling Lucky because that is what he truly is, is adjusting marvelously!! He's very social... he's desperate to interact with Rascal, the cat next door, but Rascal isn't sure. Froggy, of course, is just beside himself with his little pom-pom (tail) wagging a mile-a-minute saying "come on, come on, play with me"!!!!!!!
He is quite a character. The other day, I was sitting on the sofa reading and he kept looking at me expectantly. I didn't know what he wanted because he had eaten, had plenty of fresh water and had been out to take care of "business" recently so I ignored him--------until----he went to the back door of the sunroom and picked up one of my outside shoes and came and dropped it in front of me. OK-----end of ignoring. I got the picture that he wanted to go out! What a smart dog!
I took Froggy to get a short, short hair cut and bath yesterday in preparation for his surgery and extended convalescence. Tiffany, the owner of "Calling All Paws Salon and Spa" in College Park is wonderful with special needs animals.
She said Froggy was just the sweetest dog she had seen lately and that he was so good while being groomed that she was amazed considering all his problems. She said he is not only a lucky dog but that I'm certainly a lucky owner. Of course, I agree. More to come after surgery!
