One of Lucky Dog's fantastic volunteers pointed us towards Dr. Snakard at Dogs & Cats Veterinary Referral.
On Thursday, 6/24, Mirah took Froggy to meet Dr. Snakard. And, wow, did we learn a lot about poor little Froggy! Both of Froggy's hind legs had been broken, and neither of them them had healed correctly! Dr Snakard called them "non-union" fractures because the bones did not heal back together. As a result, Froggy had false joints in both hind legs. Yep, that is what it sounds like - his legs were really being supported by bone joints. It was a miracle he was even walking!
Froggy also had a fractured pelvis, and his left femur was not sitting properly in the hip socket...quite a lot that needed to be fixed!
Poor Froggy had to have suffered a very serious trauma to cause this much damage. We think he was either hit by a truck or he fell (or was dropped) 4-5 stories. Poor dog!! Its amazing he is such a happy go lucky little boy!
Dr. Snakard is very optimistic that we can fix Froggy's legs. The surgery requires putting rods into both femurs and attaching them to an external brace for a few weeks. This surgery will help force the bones back into the correct position. He will also need an FHO (Femoral Head Osteotomy).
Now, the only obstacle in Froggy's way is FUNDING! Please help us raise the money needed for Froggy's surgery.... We need to raise $3,500 to cover the expense! PLEASE DONATE NOW!
